born in winter
and forgotten as well
we just replaced the ancient pain
with a deeper sort of hell

reunited in spring
and resisted, made to wait
we only rebuilt our inner anger
into a different sort of hate

solid in summer
and crumbling all the same
we simply re-stacked the memories
into a taller pile of blame

separated in fall
but still saying goodbye
we keep reviewing every misstep
every faulty, failed retry

dead in winter, dead in spring
dead in summer, dead in fall
the season doesn’t matter
this heart is dead for all
